How can I access the 30+ Gb hard drive for my now defunct laptop?

I have extracted the internal hard drive from my now failed Toshiba MX35 Satellite laptop computer (the mother board failed on this computer due to electric static). Before I could back up the data on this drive to CD’s or external USB flash drives, the computer completely failed. There is about 10 Gb of data that I would like to salvage, and also be able to use this hard drive as an additional storage space for data.

I have heard that Western Digital company had similar sized external hard drives that connect through USB fire wire. Is it possible to buy such a hard drive (like the 60 Gb) one, and remove the 60 Gb drive, and put in the Toshiba 30 Gb drive, and have it work properly?

Go to newegg.com or any of several other vendors and get a USB to IDE drive enclosure. It’ll allow you to put this drive into the enclosure and use it as a USB drive. Full access to all the data.

The enclosures are from $10 and up and work really nice. (Have a look at the link below)

Or, you could do as you note above and get the enclosure with the drive already in it, but that’ll cost a lot more.
